Meet Caitlin | CSC Photography - Personal | Southwest Virginia

Usually, this would be the first post on a blog, but my blog didn't start out as a "normal" blog.

When I began my photography business and created my website, I actually HATED the idea of blogging.

I thought it was unnecessary and a waste of time.

I didn't like it.

I didn't think I had anything "worthy" of being shared.

And, I wasn't good at it.

I tried to start blogging on my website TWICE, and both times, I ended up deleting the one or two posts I had.

A little over a year into my business, and I think I've finally started to get the hang of a consistent and rather interesting blog. (That last part's definitely debatable though).

Hi, I'm Caitlin!

I'm a nineteen-year old photographer, college student, music enthusiast, and future politician.

I picked up my first DSLR my junior year of high school when I was enrolled in my school's journalism class.

We learned some of the basics of photography... automatic modes, rule of thirds, leading lines, etc. It wasn't much, but when I held the camera in my hands, something just CLICKED! (Get it?)

Truly, I quickly fell in love with the photography aspect of journalism.

I found myself volunteering for as many events as I could manage with my very full extracurricular activity schedule... and I may have purposefully signed up to photograph Friday events that way I would have the camera all weekend and practice shooting before turning it back in on Monday morning.

I received my first DSLR camera as a Christmas gift from my parents my senior year of high school.

The day I got it, I photographed for HOURS!

My subjects included everything from my little sister (who is still my favorite model) to the Christmas decorations and even our Christmas dinner.

Looking back on it, it may have been a little much, but I was so excited to learn and photograph.

My intention was never to form a photography business. I simply wanted to take better pictures of my family and friends... and anyone I could service with my (at the time) very limited knowledge of a camera.

With that being said, I was about to enter college when my mom persuaded me to use photography as a way to earn a little bit of extra money while at school. I liked the idea, but I was hesitant to charge for my photography.

1. I didn't think I was good enough to charge like a "real photographer."

2. I wasn't in photography for the money. I just wanted people to enjoy their pictures.

So, I started my business in August 2017 with a Facebook page and one post of some pictures of my sister.

Since then, I've taken the time to learn the skill of photography, and I'm serving more and more clients everyday.... I absolutely LOVE it!

Stay tuned for more personal blog posts. I can't wait to tell you all about my hobbies, interests, and favorite things... BUT if you need more now, you can always click here to see more about me, and click here to read more personal blog posts.

See you soon,

Caitlin S. Cornett
